The Chisel Grind

Same Evenki-style single-bevel grind as every Taiga axe — one face flat, one convex, hand-ground to your dominant hand. The Evenki use this grind for peeling logs. It cuts very deep and clean, is easy to maintain, and can act as a hewing axe. It's a utilitarian style of grind that lets a single axe with a chisel grind fill the role of several tools around camp.

The Handle: 28 Inches for Leverage That Matters

At 28 inches, the Moose's handle gives you the leverage a heavier head needs to swing efficiently — more reach, more power transfer, less fatigue over hours of work. Like every Taiga axe, it's a taper-locked, wedgeless fit through hickory, tightening with every swing instead of loosening. If it ever breaks in the field, you can shape a new handle using the axe head alone — no other tools needed.

What kind of work is the Moose built for?

Yes. The taper-locked, wedgeless design seats by friction alone. Tap the old handle out, fit a new straight-grained handle roughed to size, and you're back to work — no wedges, no hardware, no special tools.

Is the Moose head weight consistent across orders?
Hand-forging means slight natural variation is normal, but every Moose head is forged to the 2.5 lb target from 4340 tool steel.
